I’m getting married!

Up, Up, & Away

Up, Up, & Away

Ok readers…it finally happened!  I’m engaged!  Its been a whirl-wind since it happened, but here’s the scoop.  He proposed in a hot-air balloon, with all my family following the balloon.

He arranged with my best friends’ family (who own a balloon), to have “help” in the process of lifting off…”probably won’t go up,”  I was told.  So as we were talking about doing this around my family, they all were like, “that’s fun, can we come watch, the kids would love it!”  So I was like sure, come on!

When the day finally came, we showed up and I was clueless!  My whole family was there, cameras in hand (still I had no clue).  We helped in the set-up and then Debbie (my best friend’s mom) asked if I wanted to go up.  I said sure, I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity.  She asked if John would go.  Knowing he’s weary of heights, I said she’d have to ask him.  So she did and he said to me, “if you, I’ll go.”  So I said, “I”m going, so get in the basket.”  So we went up, talking about overcoming fear and whatnot.  I thought he was nervous b/c of the flying…not so much!  ;)   So after awhile up in the air the pilot was taking our picture, then John turned to me and said something sweet.  (I don’t remember what it was)  I didn’t believe he would propose on that day, much less in a balloon so I was like, “stop being corny.”  Then he said, “No, really, I mean it” and continued with the sweet stuff.  I repeated, “Stop being corny.”  Then he realized that wasn’t working so he pulled out the ring.  I couldn’t believe my eyes…there it was!  Right in front of me.  This was it!  I started screaming, and jumping up and down, and I said yes before he could even finish asking me to marry him.  After we hugged and kissed and then the pilot (my best friend’s dad) let the crowd below know (through a walkie talkie) that “we have an affirmative, the ring is on her finger.”  It was SO amazing!  After landing I was greated by my best friends with hugs and silly girlie squeals…and then my family made their way through to the balloon.  It was so special to share with everyone!

Timing and Waiting

In this season I, and many of my friends are finding ourselves in a time of waiting and transition.  I know that there is often waiting in transition…well, that’s where we are at.  In my devotion this morning I was taken to Exodus 23:20-30. It talks about how God is going to give the land to the Isrealites.  He doesn’t do it right away…there is a process involved.  He has to rid the land of the enemy before they can take it.  Verse 29 and 30 speak it right: “I will  not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.  I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land.”

It occurred to me on my first reading of this this morning…it’s not going to happen in a year!  These people had been out in the wilderness many many years, and they still had more years to endure.  But it’s not b/c God doesn’t want them to take the land, its just he opposite.  He does want them to take possession of it.  BUT, he wants it to be “perfect” when they take possession of it!  This land isn’t going to sit desolate.  The people aren’t going to be fruitless going into the land either.  You might think, how can the timing happen when the people are fruitful and the land is clean enough for them to take?  What does that look like?  As one of the people, how do I get myself there?  SO many questions…but I was pointed to one answer…2 Peter 3:9.  It says He is patient with us.  Plain and simple.  HE IS PATIENT WITH US! Powerful words for one in a season of transition.  Powerful for me, who is constantly asking the Lord in my heart, when Lord?  How Lord?  Show me Lord?  Hurry Lord!  I can’t wait.

And then I am reminded as I was today that He is patient with me.  I am reminded that He has a way of doing things that are right, things that are true, and things that are the best!  He doesn’t want us taking the land when it has been desolate with wild beasts.  He doesn’t want us to take the land when we are fruitles and unable to maintain it.  He wants us to take the land, when it is right!

A Weekend of a Few Things

On Friday I received a rejection letter from a job I had applied for while I was unemployed.  I laughed.  I find it funny that I’m still being rejected, even after I’ve been employed (i.e. accepted) elsewhere.  This sure doesn’t do a lot for the self-esteem…lol!  I mean come on, getting rejected after the fact.  Its really not that bad.

On Saturday, I was able to connect with my best friend, Laura for a bit.  It was a good time, as always.  We haven’t been able to do get together as much because of our schedules, so it was good to re-connect and pray together for life.  This was followed by a movie with John.  We saw, “The Knowing.“  Let’s just say I thought it was going to be another one of those “end of the world-type-movies.”  It was of sorts…but not what you’d expect.  It was going along ok and then took a weird turn south.  It take a stab at biblical truths, tries to tie them in with fantasy and new age stuff.  It’s really a commentary on the beliefs of the world.  Sad really.  I wouldn’t recommend it.

Saturday night was interesting and distrubing.  I went to bed early because I was very tired.  Then I was woken up by the disturbing sounds coming from the apartment above me.  It sounded like my new neighbors were having a good time.  Good for them…crappy for me!  :(   Needless to say, I invested in some good earplugs today.

Then today I drove up to Westlake to go to my friend Carol’s baby shower.  It was great!  Such a celebration of life.  I won two games!!  Yeah for me!  I won the BINGO with the gifts game and the “don’t say the word BABY or you’ll loose your clothes pin” game.  I ended the day with like 18 clothes pins.  But the most fun (besides seeing little Carol with a big pregnant belly) was catching up with my friend Leah.  Leah is much like me in her sensitivity to the Lord’s movement.  He has been moving her and people around her much like He’s been doing here with me and those around me.  It was awesome to talk with her about what the Lord is up to in her area and in her life.  It never ceases to amaze me that when we get together, after not talking for months on end, that we pick up right where we were and can totally tell where the other is at.  What a blessing to have established such friends earlier and have been able to keep up with them…even if it is mostly on facebook.  ;)

Good Friends

Today I spent some time with Tammy. She and I both worked at the church, her as the ministry assistant to the youth and me as the assistant to the young adults. We really overlapped alot…and so we really grew to be more like sisters then co-workers.
After leaving the church, she took a job in PA as an Associate/Youth Pastor. So she doesn’t get back to Ohio very often. But she was here this weekend for a wedding and is staying till tomorrow. I spent the afternoon with her. It was great! Its always wonderful to have those people in your life that no matter where they go, no matter what they’re doing, no matter what time…things don’t change. That’s the way it is with Tammy. Good friends are a blessing from God in SO many ways! Thanks for a great time Tammy!
