Staff Christmas Party
So last night the whole staff ventured out in the cold to the Hartville Kitchen to celebrate Christmas. Its an annual event, and is one of the few events where the whole staff gets to relax and just have fun together. The food was excellent and we played a sort of “iron-chef, cake-making contest” sort of game with graham crackers, frosting, sprinkles and other assorted decorations. The goal of the game was to create something in less than 15 minutes (although the time was extended, I think b/c the head pastor’s table was not done in 15 minutes) that symbolized Christmas. It was a lot of fun to see what every table came up with.
Now, regardless of the fun and the good food this is one of those events that seem to just be a bit more fun with a significant other. Its times like these (in my mind) that the couples stand out more. Walking into the dinner was like trying to find a seat in the cafeteria on the first day of school. Awkward and a little out of place. I had to find a table where I could sit and not disrupt the flow of “two-by-two” going on. My friend who was there as a date of a co-worker asked me if I was feeling a bit awkward. (I thought I was hiding it better…I guess not.) I ended up sitting with them and some other younger folks. It was a good evening only dispersed with short times of ’singleness’ before I got over myself and just joined in the fun. And I can hear a little voice inside my head right now saying, it’s all in your head…you are making it worse than it really is. And I know that, but sometimes its just more fun when you have someone to share it with.
